About
The Building
Shaker
House was built in 1923 as a tenement house in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Over the years the building fell into disrepair and finally
became vacant and uninhabitable. Realizing that the building
was structurally sound, indeed even sturdier than a modern structure,
the developers undertook to rehabilitate this solid masonry
building with its 3 inch thick limestone facade. It was stripped
down to the core and rebuilt to be as good as new, retaining
the basic interior layout as it was years ago.
